An upright perennial to 1.5m tall, with paddle-shaped, bronze-purple leaves striped with pink, ageing to shades of pink and orange, and large deep orange flowers in summer and early autumn. Cannas are not reliably hardy in the UK but will usually survive in the south of England provided they are given a good mulch in autumn. Alternatively they can be dug up and overwintered in a pot kept in a frost free garage, shed or porch
